Career Development at tracekey: Not a Straight Line, but Many Different Paths

At tracekey, we don’t see careers as a rigid ladder with clearly defined rungs. Development is rarely linear, and that’s exactly how it plays out in our company. We create an environment where personal strengths, professional growth, and an entrepreneurial mindset come together. How individual these paths can look becomes clear when you take a closer look at the careers within our team.

Diverse Backgrounds, Unconventional Careers

Many colleagues at tracekey bring professional biographies that don’t appear “traditional” at first glance. These include former marketing working students who now take on responsibility in product management and as Scrum Masters, software developers who also write novels, or employees who joined us via qualification programs from completely different fields.

Especially in the early days of tracekey, formal professional backgrounds played a secondary role. What mattered was whether someone fit the role and the team. As our co-founder Stefan Hoffmann puts it:

“Especially at the beginning, it wasn’t that important what professional background people had, as long as they were a good fit for us and we could see that they basically matched the role. Today, we observe that certain fields require more specialized knowledge and relevant professional experience than others, where it is easier to learn on the job.”

This development reflects the company’s growing maturity and, at the same time, shows that career paths at tracekey can start from very different points.

Individual Career Paths Instead of One-Size-Fits-All

People are at different stages of life and pursue different goals, and we consciously take this into account. Parental leave, studies, or personal passion projects do not exclude responsibility at tracekey. Development does not only happen within traditional full-time models.

Switching between teams is also possible and actively encouraged. For example, a software developer initially joined tracekey for a mandatory internship and later worked in the Customer Success team. Thanks to their development background, they can now competently answer even complex customer questions. Working students also have real opportunities with us. Many stay for years and support a wide variety of areas. In several cases, we’ve been able to take them on permanently after graduation. Over time, they often grow into roles that have little to do with their original situation or their field of study.

This shows that development at tracekey is guided by talent, motivation, and business needs, not by titles or rigid career stages.

Learning as an Integral Part of Everyday Work

Our work takes place in a highly regulated environment. Even though we are not a traditional consulting company, solid technical and regulatory knowledge is essential across all teams, whether in software development, marketing, sales, or support. Developers need to understand regulatory requirements just as much as marketing or sales colleagues need to grasp their customers’ challenges.

Since no one can know everything, knowledge sharing is a core part of our daily work. Teams regularly exchange industry insights, regulatory requirements, and best practices. This is complemented by external training, professional literature, certifications, and conference attendance, whether as participants, speakers, or simply for professional exchange and networking. Training is also relevant in the context of customer audits, for example, when it comes to GxP or GAMP courses.

Growth Through Responsibility and Feedback

At tracekey, employees take on responsibility early, whether for projects, customers, or product areas. Initiative and proactive thinking are explicitly encouraged. Mistakes are not seen as setbacks, but as part of the learning process.

Feedback is a key element of this development. It takes place in day-to-day work as well as in structured feedback and development discussions. Personal goals and next steps are defined together. Communication happens on equal footing, regardless of role or seniority. This is complemented by regular team retrospectives that create space for reflection, improvement, and continuous development.

Careers in an International, Regulated Environment

tracekey works on globally relevant topics such as MDR, IVDR, UDI, DPP, eIFU, and pharmaceutical serialization. Collaboration with international customers and partners is part of everyday work.

This creates development opportunities in an environment that is both technically demanding and builds expertise that is highly sought after on the market, regulatory, and technical.

Shaping Instead of Just Participating

Employees at tracekey actively shape processes, products, and structures. Short decision-making paths and a strong start-up mentality provide room for ideas and responsibility. Personal development goes hand in hand with the growth of the company.

Long-Term Perspectives at tracekey

We see career development as a long-term collaboration. Rather than frequent role changes, the focus is on continuous development within the company. Our goal is to grow together. Professionally, personally, and as individuals.
